Layang-Layang Diving Sites
D'Wall

It seems the derivation of the name of this dive has got lost in time.
Most likely the written form of a lazy, Asian pronunciation of ‘The
Wall’, it is one of the only genuinely vertical walls in Layang-Layang. It boasts superb visibility allowing you to gaze down into
the 2,000 metre abyss. Indeed care must be taken to gauge your depth
here, since the clarity of the water can trick the mind.
There is a ledge in the wall at about 40 metres which it would be wise
not to drop over without keeping an eye on your position. Competing
for your eyes’ attention is the tremendous colour of the wall
peppered with sponges, gorgonians, multi-coloured crinoids and the
radiant violet of large tropical anthias.
Look out for the numerous
varieties of nudibranchs but don't keep your head wedged in D'wall
at all times. There may be sharks here too. Leopard sharks resting on
the ledge beneath your fins are plentiful and, at the right time
of year, schools of hammerhead sharks will be cruising past. Such an amazing dive
it needs several visits to feel you’ve seen it properly. D'End.
